FOUNDER-JASON BORTE
Jason has taught surfing since 1992 and is a former pro champion. He is also a middle school teacher and author of the Kelly Slater bio Pipe Dreams as well as many surf magazine articles. He lives in Virginia Beach.
VA/NY MANAGER-L.B. WALES
This is L.B.'s seventh summer teaching surf camp. On a board since age 10, he has surfed around the world. He is currently studying tourism management at James Madison University.
VA INSTRUCTOR-TYLER BOHN
In his third year with The Surf School, Tyler is among the most talented young surfers coming out of Virginia Beach.
VA INSTRUCTOR-JOHN KERSEY-John has surfed for ten years and is among the top amateur competitors in the area. He is a freshman at Flagler College.

Rich is a high school teacher and football coach. He began surfing at age 12 and has traveled extensively. This is his second year as a camp manager.
VA/RI INSTRUCTOR-ALEX BURDETT
Alex was a Surf School student before joining our team in 2005. He is one of Virginia Beach's best surfers as well as a talented artist.
NY MANAGER-SCOTT JANKOW- Scott began surfing in Long Island at age 9. He joined The Surf School in 2006 and is also a 2nd grade teacher.
NY INSTRUCTORS-CHELSEA RYDER, VICKY SCHOMAN, SAMMY DIORIO-Chelsea & Vicky have each surfed for over a decade and spent three summers as instructors. Sammy is a former camper who has graduated to instructor.
NY INSTRUCTOR-IAN HOFFMAN-Ian has surfed Gilgo Beach for nearly a decade and is studying secondary education. He joined our team as an instructor in 2008.
